Café Horizon

Post 16 students at Dryden school proudly participate in the running and maintenance of a fully functioning community café. Our aim is to offer affordable treats to our students, parents, and wider school community. We run this each Thursday morning between 09:30 and 11:00 but opening hours are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of preparation and planning and our students ae involved in every aspect of that. From stock take, preparing shopping lists, and researching recipes for our special’s menu. To visiting the local supermarket, baking cakes or pastry’s in the kitchen, and cleaning our bespoke uniforms, everyone has a role. The students attend weekly ROTA meetings to ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience different sides of the world of work and again a debrief ROTA meeting to share achievement goals and review targets. This term we have introduced a new SMART Point of Sales system. Our service staff have received training and use iPads to take and then share orders with display systems in the kitchen and the drinks station. All our students are tremendously proud to be part of the café team and relish the opportunity to serve their friends and our families with a smile.
