In September 2015 a trial post was created with fixed term funding for 2 years, the special school nursing role. The funding came from Local Authority (Education and Public Health) and Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The fixed term period has come to an end and due to financial pressures in Local Authority the funding/contract cannot be extended. We will therefore no longer have Jen Samuels involved with supporting pupils in our school. Jen has been very valued by both staff and parents. We thank Jen immensely for all her support.
Newcastle Gateshead CCG and Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust have been and will continue to review the nursing service provided in the Special Schools in Gateshead in the aim to meet the requirements of the pupils to keep them safe and attending school wherever possible. In this interim period a new process will be in place.
From the start of term in January 2018, Dryden will have a named link nurse – we welcome Tammy Hennon. Tammy is part of the community children’s nursing team (CCNT) and already knows some of the children who attend our school.
