At Dryden School we promote ‘British Values’ through our spiritual, moral, social and cultural education which permeates through the school’s curriculum and supports the development of the ‘whole child.’
We believe that this can be achieved most successfully when those values and attitudes are promoted by all the staff and provide a model of behaviour for our students.
The curriculum in each key stage offers broad and balanced opportunities.

The ability to understand and communicate are the most important areas of learning. We ensure that students are given a ‘voice’ to communicate, be it the spoken word, objects, photographs, pictures, symbols, touch cues, body language, eye pointing or signing
We empower our students by giving them opportunities to make choices about the things that they believe to be important. By valuing each student’s voice and by listening and responding we demonstrate that we support democracy and liberty.
Our active school councils play an important part in this area.
Rule of Law
Students are involved in setting and reviewing our codes of expected behaviour, helping them make decisions and choices that are acceptable to our schools and the wider community.
Students are helped to learn to manage their behaviour and take responsibility for their actions. Support for managing and regulating behaviour is also promoted through the use of Thrive. Staff are committed to providing a consistent and predictable environment within the schools and beyond. We support the students to understand the connection between actions and consequences. This enables our students to feel safe and secure; this in turn promotes positive conditions for learning.
At Dryden School we follow a whole school Positive Behaviour Programme which involves pupils taking responsibility for their behaviour and being rewarded for doing so. Pupils earn points which enables them to gain rewards.
Students are encouraged to become good and valued citizens. We do this by supporting each student to become as independent as possible. We endeavour to demonstrate that everyone has rights- including the right to say ‘No’. Some students will be able to take responsibility for particular roles in school and to understand that with certain rights comes a level of responsibility. Learning to do things independently is an important part of learning to understand yourself and an important part of our work in the schools.
We support others by participating in national charitable events such as Comic Relief, Children in Need, Christmas Jumper Day as well as supporting local charities. We believe that promoting a caring and helpful environment and encouraging independence can boost and nurture positive self-esteem.
We promote each student’s inclusion in activities, settings and locations that are appropriate to them individually to meet their needs. Within our schools, students work with a range of people and interactions with others are always positively promoted on a personalised basis for each individual. Students take part in visits into the community taking part in sporting events, music projects and a wide range of curriculum focussed activities and work experience. We believe it is important to facilitate opportunities within the community to support community cohesion.
Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith
Each person within our federation is respected and valued equally without regard to ability, gender, faith, heritage or race.
Cultural appreciation and development forms part of our curriculum. We believe in providing our students with opportunities to participate in a variety of events and celebrations and have experiences which broadens all students’ experiences and awareness of others, for example visiting a wide range of places of worship and welcoming visitors of different faiths into the schools.
Our assemblies help all students to find out about themselves and others via themes such as ‘Multi-faith celebrations’, ‘Values’, ‘Keeping Safe’, ‘World Issues’, ‘Helping Others’, ‘Celebrating achievement’, ‘Sport’, ‘Seasons’
