For Safer Internet Day Class 4 thought about how they use the internet.  Anna, Jacob and Fran all said they use YouTube to watch music videos and cartoons.  Anna also likes to use Google to find out about boy bands and Emily likes to use it to find out about her favourite television programmes.  We talked about the rules of being SMART online:

SAFE – Keep your personal information safe

MEET – Friends made online are strangers; meeting them can be dangerous

ACCEPTING – Accepting files can be dangerous. If unsure, ask an adult!

RELIABLE – Not everyone or everything online is reliable or trustworthy

TELL – Always tell an adult if something online upsets or worries you

and how these apply to how we use the internet.

When we use YouTube we know that people can comment on the videos and sometimes these are unkind and could upset us.  When this happens we know we have to tell an adult who can help us feel better or help us report the problem.

We also know that when we search for something on the internet, the information we find isn’t always true so we shouldn’t trust everything we find.  Sometimes we can find something which makes us feel sad and if that happens we should always tell an adult.
